How we handle personal data in the ChooseIT app and on chooseit.com
Last updated: August 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains in clear terms what personal data ChooseIT uses, why we use it and what rights you have. ChooseIT collects only the information needed to provide the service and does not currently use advertising profiling or behavioral analytics systems.
The data controller is ChooseIT Suisse di Stefano Brolis, CHE-334.593.338, Via Franco Zorzi 13, 6900 Paradiso, Switzerland. For any privacy-related request, you can contact us at [email protected].
For users in the European Union, the representative appointed under Article 27 GDPR is ChooseIT Srl, Via Carlo Giuseppe Merlo 3, 20122 Milan, Italy, which can be contacted at the same address: [email protected].
Registration is optional. If you create an account, we may process your first name, last name, email address and the identifiers required to access the service. Authentication may also take place through Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In.
To provide the ChooseIT service, we may process information relating to saved products, lists, gift selections or requests for advice, messages or gift notes, the recipient's choice and, where applicable, product size, color or other variants.
If the recipient voluntarily provides a delivery address, that information is used only in connection with the relevant gifting experience and may be made available to the sender.
ChooseIT does not import or upload your entire device address book. If you choose an existing contact on your phone, the app uses the native iOS or Android contact picker and receives only the information relating to the contact you selected. Depending on the information available and the function used, this may include first name, last name, birthday, anniversary and address.
Birthday or anniversary dates may be used to remind you in advance of a possible gifting occasion.
For authentication, push notifications, security and error management, technical data may be processed, such as device or installation identifiers, notification tokens, operating system information and data relating to crashes or technical issues.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely mainly on the performance of the service requested by the user, consent where required, legitimate interests for security and the proper functioning of the service, and compliance with legal obligations.
ChooseIT does not currently use user data to build profiles for behavioral advertising.
We use a limited number of technology providers to operate the service. These currently include Amazon Web Services (AWS) for infrastructure and databases, Google/Firebase for authentication and push notifications, Google Sign-In for login and Sentry for crash reporting.
ChooseIT's main backend and database are hosted on AWS in Ireland. Some service providers may process data in countries outside Switzerland or the European Economic Area, including the United States. Where required by applicable law, we use the safeguards provided by law for international data transfers.
ChooseIT does not sell the products displayed in the app and does not handle payments or orders. If you decide to purchase a product, you are redirected to the website of the brand or retailer selling it.
ChooseIT works with brands, retailers and affiliate marketing networks. When you voluntarily choose to open a retailer's website through a link available in ChooseIT, the relevant partner may use cookies or technical identifiers to attribute a resulting purchase to ChooseIT. This tracking is not triggered simply by opening the app.
ChooseIT may receive a commission on purchases completed through its partners. This does not change the price paid by the user. Payment, ordering, shipping and the commercial relationship always remain with the retailer.
ChooseIT may send notifications relating to lists, choices made by recipients and other service features. If you have saved a birthday or anniversary, the app may send you a reminder before the relevant date.
Notifications can be managed through the app and device settings. Any communications relating to news and promotions are separate from functional notifications and are sent only according to the preferences expressed by the user.
We keep personal data only for as long as needed to provide the requested features and to comply with any applicable legal obligations. Data associated with an account is kept while the account remains active or for as long as needed to provide the service.
When a user deletes their account, ChooseIT deletes the account and the associated data, including lists, stored information and notifications, except for any information that must be retained by law.
Account deletion can be started directly from the app. If you cannot access the app, you can use https://www.chooseit.com/account-deletion or contact [email protected].
ChooseIT applies reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data. Communications between the app and the backend use HTTPS/TLS, which protects data while it is being transmitted. Non-sensitive technical information, such as language preferences or tutorial settings, may be stored locally on the device.
No information system can guarantee absolute security, so our measures are adapted over time as the service and related risks evolve.
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have the right to access your personal data, correct it, request its deletion, restrict its processing, object to certain uses, request data portability or withdraw consent previously given.
To exercise your rights, contact [email protected]. Users in the EU may also lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority. Users in Switzerland may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
ChooseIT is not directed to children under 16 and does not knowingly collect personal data through accounts created independently by users under 16.
Users residing in the United States may have additional rights under the privacy laws of their state, where applicable. ChooseIT does not sell personal data and does not currently use cross-site behavioral advertising systems.
The chooseit.com website does not currently use behavioral analytics tools, Meta Pixel, Google Ads tracking or other advertising profiling systems. If such tools are introduced in the future, this Privacy Policy and any required consent mechanisms will be updated before they are used, where required by law.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the service, the providers we use or applicable law. The latest version will always be published on the website together with its update date.
